Virgin Ice Lake Trek trails begins from the Deep of Pokhara Metropolitan City and goes through many human settlements and beautiful hills along with the dozens of attractions to reach the virgin ice-lake called Kahpuche, in the north east of Kaski district.

The route from the elevation of 904 meters at Deep to 3,450 meters at Kahpuche offers the brilliant views of Snowcapped mountains, green hills, wild lives, typical Nepali village culture and many more. At the sametime ,the route connects the villages like Armala, Aatighar Mauja, Thak and Sikles.

The Key attraction of this trekking route obliviously is the Kapuche. Kapuche has been claimed as a lowest elevation glacial lake of the world. The lake temperature falls below minus in winter season and sometimes the surface-water changes into stiff icy ground. The lake with 1,200 square meters in area is tranquil glacial lake indeed. Regarding the name-Kapuche is actually a noun from Gurung language.It refers the plain surface made of crumbled snow and ices.

Kapuche is also a place that offers the close views of small to mammoth avalanches sourced from the peak of Annapurna II. A number of avalanches even in a single day,glaciers and the glacial lake format the small heaven in Kapuche area. However,there is no facility of boating in Kapuche as it is a virgin and newly explored lake in wild area beneath the high mountains.

Before reaching Kahpuche, there is place named Hugu in two hours of walking distance. The specialty of Hugu is centuries old culture of animal husbandry in the elevation of 2,100 meters from sea level. There could still be seen the goat and buffalo shades and the shade-culture in Hugu. Surrounded by more than a half dozen of high mountains. Hugu is 6 hours far from nearest human settlement called Sikles.

Kapuche Lake is the lowest glacial lake of Nepal, situated at an altitude of 2400 mtr above sea level. It lies in Kaski district of Nepal. It can be reached easily in couple of days from Pokhara. Pokhara is the gate way to many trekking destinations.

Trekking Gears or Trekking Equipment Required

What to pack for the trek is one of the important questions. Not having proper gears can prove troublesome, cause health issues or just simply ruin your mood. So, here is a general idea of what you should bring to Annapurna Base Camp trekking.

  1. A light weight trekking boots. It is not impossible to do this trek in sneakers or trainers. Many people have. Just that you will be walking in snow for some part of the trek and boots offer more safety. If you are a women trekker, check out these best hiking boots for women of 2017.

If you will be trekking this one time only, no need to spend on hiking boots. Just make sure that your shoes are well fitting, light and comfortable.

  1. A pair of crocs
  2. Four pair of liner socks. Two pair for warm climate and two pair for cold climate. Trekking/liner socks are better but it is okay if you only have the normal ones.
  3. Few pairs of underwear. There are trekking underwear that you could buy in home. They are good for other outdoor activities as well. Normal ones can be bought in Nepal.
  4. A high-quality best down jackets and a down pant. You can buy or rent a good down jacket and a down pant in Nepal for cheap for a $1 or less per day.
  5. T-shirts and trousers keeping in mind both cold and warm temperature you will be traversing.
  6. A set of thermals. Or, you could layer up.
  7. A light sleeping bag. This can be bought or rented in Nepal too.
  8. A trekking pole. Though relatively easy, there are many ups and downs in this trek and a trekking pole can assist you. Else, you could find a sturdy stick en route and use it to support yourself.
  9. Two pairs of Gloves. One for warm weather and one for cold.
  10. A woolen hat
  11. Sunglasses
  12. A torchlight or a head torchlight
  13. A First aid kit including Diamox and Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS)
  14. Toiletries– Toilet paper, hand sanitizer, water purifiers, sunscreen, moisturizer, toothpaste and toothbrush.
  15. A waterproof map of Annapurna Base Camp
  16. Snacks you like and entertainment such as books, cards, an iPad etc.

Day 1
Arrived at Kathmandu (1400 m)

Day 2
Kathmandu (1400 m) to Pokhara (830 m)

Having breakfast at morning then ready to drive towards Pokhara (830 m) on Prithvi highway along through the side of Trishuli river via Tourist bus, having lunch at the way, it just take 5 to 6 hrs to reached Pokhara that depends on the road condition. Tonight stay at any hotel of Lake side.

Day 3
Pokhara (830 m) to Sikles (1980 m)

Having breakfast at morning then ready to drive towards Sikles (1980 m) on Pokhara Sikles route along through the side of Madi river via local bus or any other vehicle, having lunch at the way, it just take 5 to 6 hrs to reached Sikles that depends on the road condition. Tonight stay at any hotel or homestay at Sikles.

Day 4
Sikles (1980 m) to Hiu Goth (2100 m)

Having breakfast at morning then ready to trek towards Hiu Goth (2100 m) along through the green forest. On the way you can see the beautiful view of the mountain, You can see the different varities of the flora and fauna. Having junk food as a lunch on the way, it just take 5 to 6 hrs or even 8 hrs by taking a photo to reached Hiu Goth that depends on the weather condition and how we walk slow or fast. Tonight stay at flock of sheep on a pasture .

Day 5
Hiu Goth (2100 m) to Kapuche lake (2546 m) back to Hiu Goth (2100 m)

Having breakfast at morning then ready to trek towards Kapuche lake (2546 m) along through the green forest. On the way you can see the beautiful view of the Fishtail and Lamjung Hiimal, You can see the different varities of the flora and fauna. Having junk food as a lunch on the way, it just take 2 hrs by taking a photo to reached Kapuche lake (2546 m) that depends on the weather condition and how we walk slow or fast. Tonight stay at flock of sheep on a pasture.

Day 6
Hiu Goth (2100 m) to Sikles (1980 m)

Having breakfast at morning then ready to trek back towards Sikles (1980 m) along through the green forest. On the way you can see the beautiful view of the Fishtail and Lamjung Hiimal, You can see the different varities of the flora and fauna. Having junk food as a lunch on the way, it just take 5 to 6 hrs to reached Kapuche lake Sikles (1980 m) that depends on the weather condition and how we walk slow or fast. Tonight stay at. Day 7
Sikles (1980 m) to Pokhara (830 m)

Having breakfast at morning then ready to drive back towards Pokhara (830 m) along through the green forest, nepali local village and more. Having lunch on the way, it just take 5 to 6 hrs to reached Pokhara (830 m) that depends on the weather condition and movement of vehicle. At evening you can roaming around the local market of Lakeside by yourself. Tonight stay at. Tonight stay at any hotel at lakeside.

Day 8
Pokhara Day Tour

Having breakfast at morning then move towards Peace pagoda (1100 m) located at high hill. Return back and see Gopteshwor cave, then having lunch after that we can do either doing boating at Fewa lake or visit any other place, At the min time we drive towards Aaroma Homes, Lumle (1610 m) via local bus or any other vehicle which takes around 1 hrs to reached to Aaroma Homes, Lumle (1610 m). Tonight stay at Aaroma Homes, Lumle with typical culture and tradition.

Day 9
Aaroma Homes, Lumle (1610) to Kathmandu (1400 m)

Having breakfast at morning then ready to drive towards Kathmandu (1400 m) along through the awesome nature via Tourist bus, having lunch on the way or you can return back through flight, that is up to you. Tonight stay at any hotel of Thamel.

Day 10
Kathmandu Day Tour

Having breakfast at morning than vist monkey temple Syambhunath, then we can go either Royal palace museum or Basantapur durbar museum or any other place of Kathmandu, at evening roaming at the street of Thamel on your own way. Tonight farewell party at Nepali cultural restaurant.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Kapuche lake is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will to, you can.

How long do we walk everyday when doing Mardi Himal trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 2546 m. This is the elevation of Kapuche Lake. Kapuche lake is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries in Sikles only. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, these facility could be free.

Are there ATMs on the way to Kapuche Lake?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire a potters for Kapuche Lake Trek?

Not really. It depends on you. If you think I am enough strong to carry all of my things and bag packs whole over the treks by myself then potter is not necessary if not we recommend that to hire a potters which are provided by us with a certain extra charge.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
