History of Lumle, Former Gurkhas To Recieve Same Personal Pension as British Soldiers….

LUMLE, NEPAL- MARCH 15: Man Bahadur Gurung,73, sits in front of his home mountain village of Lumle on March 15, 2007 in Nepal. He served 19 years as a Gurkha stationed in four different countries from Hong Kong to Brunei and retired in 1970. The village is home to many Gurung who are the ethnic majority chosen to be Gurkhas. After 200 years the Gurkhas have finally won equal rights to get the same pension as the rest of the British army, after winning 13 Victoria Crosses and praise for bravery and loyalty in service of the British Crown. The pension deal will be available to all troops who left the Army after 1997. Many ex-Gurkhas are not eligible and are unhappy about the recent annoucement.
